I have a Lawnboy 522R Model 28230-790001 &up. I went to start it this morning with the electric start and it seemed to freeze up. There wasn't the usual motor start up noise. I disengaged the power cord and tried to start the unit with the pull cord, but it wouldn't budge.
I used the unit last week with no issue.
The oil(5W30) is new and at the proper level.
I bought the unit new in 1997 and not have had any issue since I bought it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Remove your electric start and try using the pull rope and see if that freed it up. Your starter may have tried to start it and then locked up, locking up your engine in the process. If this doesn't work you've got other problems, but try this first

You may have snow/ice inside the flywheel housing. Can you bring it in someplace warm for a bit OR pull the shroud?

Make sure the belts aren't frozen to the pulleys too.

If that's good, then remove the spark plug and try to turn it over.

If really bad you could try pulley the belt cover off and putting a pipe wrench on the crank, but if you aren't sure what is stuck you might make things worse. Also if you remove the recoil cover you could put a socket on the flywheel nut. Some engines have a nut on the belt side as well and some don't.

Ron, If it's not a real SHTF situation, you likely have snow or water frozen in the recoil assembly. We just got our second snow of the season here and 3 of my neighbors were at my driveway this morning asking for help for a blower that worked last night and not now. All had staged the blower near the garage door after blowing the first 4-6" we got. ALL were cleared with a heat gun on the recoil. Try some heat at the recoil and directly inside the bucket (look for obvious ice). Tec's usually die while running, not after, so I suspect some frozen something. I've been wrong before;)

This morning I pulled the blower out of the garage and gave the pull cord a little yank and it was freed up. There was a little initial sticking, but after that it had a normal resistance.
After a few more pulls to check to see it was indeed free, I hooked up the power cord and hit the button.
It started right up. One of the augers was bent and I pulled it out. One of the supports was also broken, but I should be able to weld it back together. I have new augers, but will see if I can get through this Winter and switch them over in the Spring.
I went through all the gears and the augers moved freely.
I'm still confused as to what occurred, but glad it's back in action. The temperature this morning was 27 degrees when I first started. Must have been in the low 20's all night in an unheated garage.
Appreciate the advice and if you have anymore about the augers, let me know.

Glad you got it running again Ron!!!

It's possible that the auger is seized to the auger shaft...I would think that the shear bolt should've snapped.

I googled this machine #...looks like a green Toro...minus the drum auger! Cool! :cool:
