Picked this Old Ariens up yesterday. Freebie. Not planning on reviving it. Should be able to salvage some hardware from it. But I may still try to see if I can start it.Any idea when it was sold as new?

Model 910018 both 73 and 74, from the serial # it is a 1974 model, last year for the 10000 series machines. Yours was manufactured roughly 400 machines after mine.
I just noticed the sticker serial # on mine is 009142 but the stamped serial # is 009141. I guess someone on the line that day got the stickers mixed up.

I'm sure generations of mice have called it home.
Make sure you wear a mask and gloves when cleaning up mice crap and housing....

@thomasritchuk Did you receive my last reply (security question answer)?
You certain? Model 910018, serial 009559 looks to me to be 1974. (1973 only goes up to ser. No. 2000.)
My '74 910018 is serial number 008530. All original except for the scraper bar and skids. And belt.
@Ziggy65 - interesting placement of the electric start switch. Mine is on the top of the engine shroud.

That photo is from 2 years ago right after I finished the restoration and was where the switch was mounted when I got the machine.

I have since remounted it to the location I think Ariens intended the switch to be mounted, inside the heater box. The mounting holes and hole for the starter button are predrilled from the factory and it makes for a much cleaner installation.

Shame there's so much rust on it. I got lucky with my machine and after washing and going over the paint with some Meguiars Ultimate Compound the machine looks great again.
Easiest way to identify a 1974, without serial (at least from memory of only one Ive seen in the flesh), is that the frame is completely unique to 1974. It has 2 rear frame brackets that aren't weldments, whereas the 1973 only has the lone remote clutch bracket. A unique feature that makes engine swapping away from the original Techumseh layout , problematic.
There are exceptions. My 10, 000 series (fabricated late in the 1973 season) also has these 2 frame brackets.

Late 73? I believe that's considered a 74 model
IMHO it's a 1973. 910021 serial 001559 with Sno Thro 910995 serial 085151. The adjustment link for the friction wheel is different than the one on the 1974. Note: I have both: a 1973 and a 1974. I have compared. :)
