I have posted about dump picks a number of times in the general section, usually embedded in an ongoing thread. I thought I would start a thread dedicated to those free finds that may or may not have been worth dragging home.

My most recent pick was this weekend when I spotted a straight shaft grass trimmer on the metal scrap pile. I don't have a straight shaft, so took a look. Turned to to be an Echo SRM-210! Missing a fuel cap. Took it home, checked it out. Plug was in good shape (probably original NGK). Air filter clean. Cleaned it up a little, put in a new fuel filter, a used Echo cap I happened too have, fresh fuel, and after several pulls it fired up. Idled pretty well. Noticed the fuel tank lines tank grommet was damaged and leaking fuel. I have a spare, so sometime later will deal with that. The shaft spun well, turning the head. I believe the shaft end should receive an injection of lithium grease.

I think it's around a 2008. Looking forward to using it next summer. Here is a pic of it next to an earlier dump find, an Echo GT-200R curved shaft trimmer.

Your motor is a Tecumseh TVS90-43389E and "Guessing, a 1987"?

Think the cj8 plug is correct? I think of those as 2 cycle plugs.

Removed the carb. Engine looks low hours, as might be expected with a machine like this. carb is kind of disgusting. Lots of varnish. Original Lausen carb. Not sure worth the effort to recover it vs a new China carb.

good news! found my ultrasonic machine. dismantled the card, cleaned it well with carb cleaner, followed by cleaning the various holes with the wires. then gave it two rounds of 380 seconds in distilled water and regular simple green.
dried it out with a heat gun, reassembled, and after a bit, it is running well and throttling well. ran some seafoam in the tank. now, just need the attachments (side chute, and bagging assemble. i don't really plan on using it, but it looks quirky and doesn't take up much of a footprint. kind of looks like a primitive lunar rover.

There are some leaves under the bushes right behind it that would be a good test...

It was a good sales weekend for Curb finds. In an earlier post (and the top 1/3) pic below shows the 2 mowers I found. The two bottom 1/3 pics showed how they cleaned up. Sold both in < 6 hours of posting (prices were good). The neat thing was the guy that bought the green one told me it was for his daughter who just bought a house. Hey, I got a an older 4.5hp single stage Yard Machines I will give you at a great price (to free up room in my garage). Sold! Everybody wins! A three-fer!!!

they did clean up well, and quickly. what price are you getting? i've sold a few in the 160-190 range. tough though competing with the free-$50 ads.

my whole yard is natural, no mowing, fert. etc. a little trimming. wooded.

I listed these for only $125 each. I got $100 for the red one, $125 for the green one and $50 for the snow blower. I see myself varying on my pricing depending on.... time of year, fullness of garage, mood, price I paid, parts that went into it, etc. etc. I do this primarily as a hobby, but a hobby with Benjamins at the end. :D

i have a story today: just sold a nice craftsman mower for $180. couple said they couldn't get their mower started. they said i could come by and grab it. later on, i swung by. it was on the curb. took it home, washed it up. its a toro 6.5 (model 21462) only a couple of years old, with bag. retails for close to $500! wouldn't start for me, most likely gummed up carb. i instructed them to add fuel stabilzer in the craftsman, and store it out of the weather.

before and after pics:

I think Oneacer owes us a correction, lawnmowers do pay! I’ve sold far more mowers than blowers, though if I started grabbing the newest free blowers, that might change. However, like I have said, grass will grow, snow may not fall.
On a side note, grabbed this today. Haven’t seen one in a long time. Looks futuristic. Never used one.

ok, installed a new china carb on the green powerall. did not replace the o-ring and paper gasket because they looked fine, and perhaps better than the included replacements. hoewever, after getting it running, still searching badly! could it really be the gaskets? or something else......
Sure could. Spray some ether sound the edge and see if it sucks it in.
A couple of easy hours on the toro, dismantling the plastic carb, and it is running great. I might be taking a liking to these plastic carbs. Easier to work on.

replaced original gaskets with new supplied, still hunting. strange, new fuel, new carb, new gaskets.
Oh boy, another one at the dump. Looks like carb issues again!

Man, that dump of yours is a magical place, you have picked up some really nice and interesting items there in the past year or so.
