I sold a running ST724 with similar rust for $160 last fall. Paint was still flaking off as it was running in my driveway.
Decided to tear into the st824 while I had everything out. Scraping, degreasing, minor surgery, etc. started in two pulls, forward and reverse fine. Now what??!

i'd be interested in selling the hose, for big $$!Even if you can't get that 4 in 1 to run, the hose kit assembly is a sought after thing. I see a lot of those and similar units come up around me, but they all seem to be missing that vacuum hose. And, you can't buy it. You'd think someone would see the need and start recreating that as a kit.
Although we're both in Massachusetts, all I can say is it's a good thing I don't live closer to you with access to your finds. I don't think I would still be married. What say the masses? Appears barely used. Straight shaft with tiller attachment. In the metal pile.
dump pics, or wife? that's a tough one!Although we're both in Massachusetts, all I can say is it's a good thing I don't live closer to you with access to your finds. I don't think I would still be married.
Ok, tried to get it started. Noticed no gas going through bulb. Felt the carb lines, one seemed loose. Unbolted the air cleaner; yup, one of the black carb lines had detached (see pic). Reattached, put it back together, pumped and saw gas flow. Started first pull. Runs strong. So they threw away $300 worth of equipment because a fuel line fell off.Does it run?
Looks like a great score for that price.
I will never understand this helpless and wasteful society we seem to live in.Ok, tried to get it started. Noticed no gas going through bulb. Felt the carb lines, one seemed loose. trimmer is dated May 2018.
one thing taking hold in society is the desire for "services", to have someone else do tasks for you (walk my dog, do my grocery shopping, cut my grass, cook my food, etc). i've been noticing people dumping CDs and DVDs. people are getting convinced that streaming services are all they will ever need. so, they throw away all their physical media that they have spent thousands on and sign up for $15/mth on multiple services to access what they may have thrown away or other content.I will never understand this helpless and wasteful society we seem to live in.
Do they just have too much money? Laziness? Stupidity?
Doesn't take much skill or time to search online for a You Tube video or unbolt the air cleaner to check things out.
Great score, you will have no problem selling it for a decent $, if you choose to.
Does it have an external recoil starter?Head back to the dump the dump this weekend. Anything else to salvage (I took off the wheels, electric starter, dip stick, fuel tank, spark plug ). Was thinking about the heater box.
you mean a recoil, no it does not.Does it have an external recoil starter?
My snowblowers are so old, I hadn't seen an external recoil starter until my brother's failed, and he was talking about taking the four nuts off to get the recoil starter off and I didn't know what he was talking about. I've fixed a few of mine and had to take the shroud off, etc.you mean a recoil, no it does not.
it did have one, but it had been removed. My snowblowers are so old, I hadn't seen an external recoil starter until my brother's failed, and he was talking about taking the four nuts off to get the recoil starter off and I didn't know what he was talking about.
