Post your special OPE dump/curb finds here!

I have posted about dump picks a number of times in the general section, usually embedded in an ongoing thread. I thought I would start a thread dedicated to those free finds that may or may not have been worth dragging home.

My most recent pick was this weekend when I spotted a straight shaft grass trimmer on the metal scrap pile. I don't have a straight shaft, so took a look. Turned to to be an Echo SRM-210! Missing a fuel cap. Took it home, checked it out. Plug was in good shape (probably original NGK). Air filter clean. Cleaned it up a little, put in a new fuel filter, a used Echo cap I happened too have, fresh fuel, and after several pulls it fired up. Idled pretty well. Noticed the fuel tank lines tank grommet was damaged and leaking fuel. I have a spare, so sometime later will deal with that. The shaft spun well, turning the head. I believe the shaft end should receive an injection of lithium grease.

I think it's around a 2008. Looking forward to using it next summer. Here is a pic of it next to an earlier dump find, an Echo GT-200R curved shaft trimmer.

Decided to tear into the st824 while I had everything out. Scraping, degreasing, minor surgery, etc. started in two pulls, forward and reverse fine. Now what??!
you know i have way to many machines/projects! what is the demand for one in this condition in strong health except paint?
I sold a running ST724 with similar rust for $160 last fall. Paint was still flaking off as it was running in my driveway.

Even if you can't get that 4 in 1 to run, the hose kit assembly is a sought after thing. I see a lot of those and similar units come up around me, but they all seem to be missing that vacuum hose. And, you can't buy it. You'd think someone would see the need and start recreating that as a kit.
i'd be interested in selling the hose, for big $$!
I pass on a lot of them that need carb cleaned/replaced because they supposed to have the hose and don’t. When you resell them people like to get all the pieces.

What say the masses? Appears barely used. Straight shaft with tiller attachment. In the metal pile.

Does it run?
Looks like a great score for that price.

Although we're both in Massachusetts, all I can say is it's a good thing I don't live closer to you with access to your finds. I don't think I would still be married.

Ok, tried to get it started. Noticed no gas going through bulb. Felt the carb lines, one seemed loose. Unbolted the air cleaner; yup, one of the black carb lines had detached (see pic). Reattached, put it back together, pumped and saw gas flow. Started first pull. Runs strong. So they threw away $300 worth of equipment because a fuel line fell off.

trimmer is dated May 2018.

Truly amazing... I just passed on this Craftsman 5.5HP at the metal pile. Appeared to be in great condition, but I already have too many mowers.

I will never understand this helpless and wasteful society we seem to live in.
Do they just have too much money? Laziness? Stupidity?
Doesn't take much skill or time to search online for a You Tube video or unbolt the air cleaner to check things out.

Great score, you will have no problem selling it for a decent $, if you choose to.

one thing taking hold in society is the desire for "services", to have someone else do tasks for you (walk my dog, do my grocery shopping, cut my grass, cook my food, etc). i've been noticing people dumping CDs and DVDs. people are getting convinced that streaming services are all they will ever need. so, they throw away all their physical media that they have spent thousands on and sign up for $15/mth on multiple services to access what they may have thrown away or other content.

i've noticed, at least on video services, there is about 80% junk. and the best films and shows throughout history may not be ever available for viewing on the services. you need to own these items to control your access to them. if you are happy to consume all the Big brothers/housewives/dancing/singing/obstacle courses/oak islands/storage wars that are pumped out, streaming is awesome!

throwing it away is giving up ownership of it.

A third AYP-built RWD mower showed up. The first two both had weak transmissions which made them somewhat unsuitable for resale, which can be seen in post #8 on page 1

#3 has a good transmission, so I ended up swapping in the nicer ball bearing-equipped wheels from the other mower with the Tecumseh engine:

Head back to the dump the dump this weekend. Anything else to salvage (I took off the wheels, electric starter, dip stick, fuel tank, spark plug ). Was thinking about the heater box.

My snowblowers are so old, I hadn't seen an external recoil starter until my brother's failed, and he was talking about taking the four nuts off to get the recoil starter off and I didn't know what he was talking about. I've fixed a few of mine and had to take the shroud off, etc.

it did have one, but it had been removed.
