Hey guys. I picked up a Poulin Pro for my mom over the summer fixed up all nice and got it ready for winter. The only thing it was missing was a starter motor. I seen the holes in the block for one so just figured I'd wait until I came across a cheap starter.
I just went to install it and discovered something terrible. The flywheel is all flat with no teeth for the starter. I'm just wondering if it's possible to install a new flywheel so I can use the starter. My mom is older and is unable to pull start a snowblower.
Any advice will be appreciated. I'm not even sure what type of engine it is. There is a husquavarna sticker on it but I'm not so sure. I've included pictures of all the numbers I can find on it it. Another problem is the ignition coil location

Hello Chris. After some research, I believe you have a 179cc engine made by LCT ( liquid combustion technology). I could not find your exact engine model, PW2HK18500. I did find a 179cc parts list, but it does not show a toothed flywheel available.

You could give them a call or send an e-mail to find out if a new flywheel is available and what the part number is.

Would be nice if you posted the photos right side up. I'm old and it's hard leaning over that far. I think I fell twice :sad2:

Engine Family: ELCTS.2081SN EPA Family: ELCPNHEQ001 Engine Model # LCT PW2HK18500178PABGOQUVZE1M

Here is a parts diagram for your 179cc engine : https://www.jackssmallengines.com/jacks-parts-lookup/manufacturer/lct/husqvarna/179cc/pw2hk18500178pabgoquvze1m-917970212/parts-assembly
and it shows an electric starter but it doesn't have it listed or priced. I can't tell if the flywheel P/N 20817101 has that ring gear or not. https://www.jackssmallengines.com/jacks-parts-lookup/part/lct/20817101
Might need to call a dealer or Poulan's customer service number to find out or someone who works on LCT engines.

So it should be possible to add one but it might be easier to just do a complete engine swap. Just depends on how much time you have till you have to have it running and if you can find a blow parts engine with electric start, cheap starter and flywhee separately or a complete different engine that will fit fairly well. It's also a good time if you replace the engine to go with a little more power :smile2: You can always sell this engine to offset the cost of something else or keep it as a spare just in case.

My apologies if the pictures aren't right side up. I'm doing this all on my iPhone and for me they are the right way. Not too sure what happened there but again, I'm sorry.

I have a local dealer just down the road that sells Ariens and if I'm not mistaken I believe they also use LCT engines? I'll do there tomorrow and see what they have to say, but I have a feeling he will say the same thing you did. Engine swap. If that's the case I will just sell that snowblower and keep my eyes open for a new one. Thanks for the help. I'll post my findings

If you took the photos with your phone it's not uncommon for them to at times get turned or even flipped. What can ya' do :icon-embarrassed:

Wished I could have been more help :sad2: Hopefully the dealer has some numbers or even some spare parts

So the dealer said that it's not really possible to get an electric start on it without very great difficulties and money. It's just not worth it sadly. So up for sale it goes and use that as a payment on a different one

What's your location? Maybe someone local to you has one far sale. For instance I have 3 lct engines with electric start sitting for sale or the next project, whichever comes first.

I'm in Timmins Ontario Canada. I keep a lookout on all the for sale sites and haven't come across anything

Not sure if they are the same size but had a similar issue with a Ariens Sno-Tek 208cc, Engine was seemingly locked so I replaced it then found out it was the toothed gear for the starter that was broke and bent stopping the engine from turning over, Found a new flywheel WITH a starter on EBay for $60 and it even had a coil on it so replaced it and keep it for a extra if I need it when repairing them. But they can be had at reasonable prices and are fairly easy to change especially if no coil.

Here is the coil installed

And the broken gear causing all my issue
