Pulling rope starter, strange moaning from engine

Hey guys, just another "is this normal?" question about my new Ariens Platinum 24 SHO.

When cold this thing takes 3 or 4 pulls of the rope to start. I noticed that when pulling the starter rope, the engine makes a strange moaning/humming/vibrating sound as the cylinder moves up and down.

I tried to capture it on video but you can only really hear it on the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th times I pull the rope. The noise happens at the peak of the pull with my arm all the way up.

That normal? My 2019 Classic 24 doesnt make any noise like this. Part of me thought the noise sounded familiar as something in my memory was making me think that my father in law's Pro 28 maybe makes the same sound too? But I havent started his in a long time and it's since sold.

Thanks guys for your input!

Thanks for your input! I should have mentioned, she starts on the 3rd or 4th pull - I turned the key off just so I could show the sound it makes without actually starting her up.

I know the wheezing is the starter rope. Can you hear a certain Mhmmmm noise on the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th times I pull in the video? It doesn't make the noise on the other pulls.

The fact it is intermittent seems odd to me

im not hearing any unusual mmmm sound, but my hearing is slightly diminished. Maybe a young buck with good ears can chime in?

I personally don't hear anything out of the ordinary so maybe everything is normal or the camera just can't pick up the sound.

I played the video several times, and tried to clue on on pulls 2, 3 & 5 as best I could, but I didn't hear anything untoward. Yes, the sound of the pull rope is dominant, but you've already parsed that one out, so...

As long as the engine starts and runs to your satisfaction, maybe just adopt a Watch and Wait position for now. (y)

My ‘24 (purchased Oct ‘23) Platinum 24SHO was starting (I have used it only a handful of times so far) on 3-4 pulls so this past weekend when I went to use it I methodically paid attention to what I was doing…key on, fuel valve open, fully choked position, and this time full throttle open, then pumped the primer bulb eight times. This time it started on the first pull.
I have not tried it again after that time but will be sure to try the same next time.
I am not a fan of the dual/stacked slippery knob control for throttle and slightly easier to use choke but back on my old Toros with a separate lever throttle I never started it in full open position.
As fas as the noises, I honestly cannot say either way that I have heard anything suspicious.

I can hear it in this video. Do you know exactly where the sound comes from, for example, out of the muffler? If so, and this is just a stab in the dark, it might be airflow past the valves caused be the compression release. Probably not anything to be concerned about.
