i was wondering if anyone has done something like this? picked up a lawn tractor from a friend with a hole in the side of the block. it has a 12.5hp briggs. i was wondering if anyone has put push mower engine in a larger engines place? i got a 6.25hp engine on a roached deck. seems like i can get a 7/8" to 1" adapter for $10. i have a feeling i know the answer but buying a new engine just don't seem practical unless it was super cheap. i figure it would only working in 1st or 2nd gear with such a small engine but you never know.

It obviously will be under powered but it seems doable. Personally, I wouldn't try it but if you have the time, talent and desire go for it. Keep us posted on results. Seems. you really ought to be able to find another engine somewhere, though. Be patient. One will show up eventually. You might want to post on Craigslist for another engine if your machine is worth spending maybe $75-100.

i had done some math and figured would maybe only have about $50 budget for a new engine to make it worth it since the machine also has no battery currently and may need a couple front axle bushings to tighten things up. with it fixed up may only be worth $250-300. if it was a better brand name or newer machine it might have more value but it is just a older mtd machine of some sort. nothing really special about it to make it more valuable or anything like that.
