Grabbed this last year. Very good condition, searching governor, assumed carb, shelved it for the winter. Dragged it out this spring, same issue. Already bought a missing throttle assembly last year.

cleaned carb, no better. Bought new Honda carb and some gaskets. New discovery, can’t get the main bolts to thread deep enough to hold tight. It’s like the outer section of the holes have thread issues. If I remove the carb, I can tighten bolts alone, but not with whole assembly. Did notice dome silver metal filings in the holes. I got believe I ever ivertightened.

anyway, starting engine shakes assembly off. Bad. Lock tite, longer shoulder bolts available, walk away? If it wasn’t a Honda engine, I would strip it and dump it.

Yup! One of the funniest things that ever happened to me was some clueless employee in a store telling me that not only didn't they stock what I wanted, but that they weren't sold separately, and spotting the item on the shelf behind him while he was blowing his fictional spew at me, and getting to rub it in his face.

Honestly, if you don't know, just say so! No need to feed me some big fictional production ahout it . . .

I would go to the store. I have not found the employees to be very useful/helpful.
Yup, I was told by an Ace employee that they didn't stock an item just as I spotted it on the display right next to him...

I'll never forget this store employee story. Sometime back in the '90s, my dad's Craftsman pop rivet gun broke. It being a Craftsmen hand tool it had a lifetime warranty. The good old days when you could just walk into a Sears and exchange it for a new one. So off to the local Sears Hardware stand-alone store we went and the following conversation happened.

Dad: I want to exchange this for a new one.

Employee: Sorry Sir, we can't exchange that.

Dad: Why not?

Employee: It's not a hand tool.

Dad: Show me where I plug it in.

Employee: It's not operated by the hand. It's operated by the rivet.

🤦🤡

Ended up leaving there with the broken rivet gun and later going to a different Sears store. They exchanged it no problem, no questions.

Reminds me of the time I took some Craftsman tools in to get them replaced and the jerk gave me a speech where he said he had just come from church and told me I had mistreated the tools! He did replace them but just had to give me grief about it!

Had a moment, ran into ace. Saw threaded rod for standard, but not in the metric section.
My son warned me about Craftsman around that same time! They would not warranty any tools because they asked him if he was a professional mechanic, and then told him they would not, because they were not professional grade! When I went in with the wife, had 1/2 of a 5-gallon bucket of tools. They asked me what I did for a living and I told them " I was a Drug Dealer", (I am Not!). They warrantied all of the tools!

On 1 more note BBQ's Charbroil is the only one to buy I say! Reasonable parts, and parts service that rivals everybody 120%, "Not the normal "If you buy a new BBQ you won't need these parts!"

Just my 2 cent's Bob in Oregon
I never had any problem exchanging broken tools at Sears. Lowes and a local chain, Rockey's are horrible.
Does any chain still offer tool replacement like Sears used to do??
You can return Craftsman hand tools to Lowe's for exchange if they have the same SKU item in stock. If not, there's an 800 number or craftsman website where you can enter the SKU and they will send you a replacement. I recently exchanged an old 1/4" ratchet via their website. Didn't need to return the old tool.
Harbor Freight also takes returns for defective/ broken hand tools.
I never had an issue exchanging an old broken 1/2 inch deep socket at my Lowes store. They just swapped it for the new one.
Lowes sells Craftman tools? I would assume.
I don't even bother with mowers, totally not worth the effort. Most people just buy a new one, cheap enough.
I dunno.. The few I have gotten I've done pretty well. If I could make a business out of getting mowers and reselling them the way I have so far, I'd be earning a pretty good wage.
