Anyone have problems reusing the U spring nuts on the housing after removing the housing to grease ? I got frustrated and just replaced them with u speed nuts.
seems they had sprung and couldn’t get them to line up. Never used spring nuts before so not sure if they are a one time deal.

They take a beating down there. Anything that makes the job easier is A-OK with me.

The part holds the bolts to attach the back cover which is removed for greasing. This part should be the same on all recent models but it’s a Platinum SHO 24 bought new a couple yrs ago.

Thanks. I have speed u nuts which are basically the same but don’t require threading and are easily reused. Never heard these called retainer nuts. The threaded version we always called spring u nuts

My parts manual calls them "nut, retainer, .25 - 20 × .56". My p/n is also #07009000. I've never had a problem reusing mine.

I coat them in grease. I would try the threaded but this was my first experience with threaded and 2 of OEM I couldn't reuse as they wouldn't line up and the speed nuts I use 3-4 times easily
