Does this look like where the other side of the idler pulley spring rests? I can’t seem to find a hole where it would fit into. Does it just rest against the inside of the housing?

The other end of the spring is clipped against the idler pulley arm.

So I was using a new-to-me Ariens 1332 Pro and I started smelling burning rubber and it was bogging down under load so I assumed it was chewing up a belt. I had a dual pulley kit in garage so I decided to stop and install it. It made a major improvement with throwing distance. One issue is that the rakes no longer stop when the clutch is disengaged. Not sure how to correct it.

Thoughts?

That is how my pulley spring looks, after installing my dual belt kit on a 926002. Not sure how it threw snow before, but it definitely throws it now. Was my grandfather's machine, he can no longer operate it, and offered it to me. The power vs my 2620 troybilt is a night and day difference, under load it just GOES, where the troybilt bogs (but does it's job!) Throws snow like a beast!

My impeller does not fully stop either, but it barely turns. I'm going to check belt tension, I ran it for about an hour today clearing 10-12" of snow, belts should be run-in by now! Probably will clear driveway tomorrow, and check later in the week when it warms up.
