Approaching 600 inches of snow and we still have rest of March and April .
1952 was the biggest winter with over 800 inches.

These measure ments are from the Berkley Snow Lab near Donner Summit. There are much high totals in the higher elevations. For a snowblower maniac like me it's been snow heaven helping people with emergency repairs.

These pictures were taken a couple days ago. Since then we have received about 2.5 more feet. We can no longer see the houses across the street.

8-9-10 feet in last 2 weeks and we have snow/rain for the next 14 days .

Wow. We live in the snowbelt in southwestern Ontario and this has been the season with the least amount of snowfall that I can remember since the mid 1960s at least. We have had two big storms but other than that a wonderful mild winter. I hope this fills up the reservoirs in your area.

Great pics thanks for sharing! Snow levels are crazy deep though forecasts are calling for a warm storm hitting later today and through the weekend. Lower elevations may get walloped with rain on top of all that snow, so likely flooding in the usual spots down in the Sacramento valley. Upper elevations should get even more snow! Unclear what will happen at Lake Tahoe. Orangputeh will be at the ready with his blower I’m sure! Down here towards reno they are calling for lots of rain but that could turn to snow. What a wild winter this has been! Mammoth Mountain reports over 60 feet of snowfall at the summit!!! We may be skiing until Labor Day lol.

The only worry I have is the roof. They are quoting anywhere from $5000-10000 to shovel a roof. Been here for 27 seasons and have had 7 feet on roof before and it was okay. I heard those roof razors work as long as the snow is fresh. But I have 7-8 feet in yards so wouldnt be able to work. It's not packed down so you would be buried.
I used to keep a 55 on back deck to blow a path to shed and propane tank.

The last 3 seasons have been drought seasons so I got complacent.

Geezus!
I'm not claustrophobic, but if I was living amongst those towering mountains of snow, I think I would be in no time at all.
Where does all the melt water go once the warmer temps come? Is flooding a big concern locally when you get this kind of snow depth?
When do you think the snow will be gone, June/July?
I feel for you and all the residents experiencing these massive storms, especially with the amount of rain and snow forecast for the next week or two.
Take care of your self and hopefully this will lessen or eliminate the forest fire season this year.

Everything starts getting interesting when it gets over the top of the SNOW POLES ;). I love the High Sierras, my favorite mountain range of the continental US.

Amazing, I'm down in southern California in the San Bernadino Mountains and thought we got clobbered with approx 100" in a week. This monday was the first time we went to the grocery store in 13 days. We usually get 30-60" the whole winter. You guys must have an amazing infrastructure to handle that kind of snowfall. I know our county transportation and Cal Trans were overwhelmed the first day of the storm . I'm on a 400ft private road that my neighbors and I have to plow and by the end of the storm my 2year old HSS1332 was the only machine still running. My old Ariens that I sold to a neighbor ate a drive belt. It took the county about a week to get a single lane plowed to the point where it meets our road. I know my Honda earned every dollar it cost this winter and it was kind of fun to blow snow 50 plus feet anywhere I wanted.

It turns the most beautiful rivers into raging torrents (get your rafts ready) then it flushes the awesome and gigantic Sacramento delta system (fire up your jet boats! California bayous will get busy).

Who knows? But I guarantee the gals will be skiing in bikinis by Easter :)

Having grown up in So. Cali, there are two types of fire status
1. Because of the lack of rain, the brush and back country is very dry so the fire danger is high.
2. Because of the high quantity of rain, the brush and back country is over grown so the fire danger is high.
Just can't win
Hopefully, they'll catch and store as much melt and run off as possible.
But I doubt it.

Y'all are a hardy bunch to live in those conditions! We've barely had an inch of snow this winter and it was so slushy it was a stretch to call it "snow". Might get another inch tomorrow but with temperatures in the mid 40's it won't be around for long.

It's a year to remember.

Great pictures.

On one hand, you think, how are we ever going to get through this and once you do, it puts a smile on your face.

The mail man has to be going crazy!
