Hi, I have a troy bilt storm 1130. 2007 model. The drive wheels stopped driving,it will move but only when traction control is engaged on handles, but only when where drives. If not running it will move maybe 1 inch back and forth. Looked at a video online with same problem,Could it be one of bearings is shot. Friction wheel is worn, but still seems to engage . Need some advice ,before I start tearing it apart. Thanks-Mike

welcome to the SBF

all snow blowers must have the traction control lever engaged to move forward or backward same with the auger it must be engaged as that is more of a built in safety to help from getting run over .
attached is a copy of the owners manual for your machine should you not have it to better help you understand how to operate that machine

Thanks! By traction control i mean it locks one wheel and spins around ,one lever on each handle. It works by just pitting in gear and pushing down drive handle,so traction control isn't engaged at this point

Good Morning All! So like i said ,it will only move when both trigger steering engaged and in gear, with that said,I was bringing it to neighbors garage to work on it ,had it in 3 or 4th and i had to run with it,not normal obviously, got to his driveway and had a hard time going up slight incilne. The friction disk wouldn't do this? Thinking the gears or bearings?? Any Advice would be greatly appreciated, haven't started working on it yet. Thanks-Mike

Tip the machine up onto the bucket (first be sure you have less than a half tank of gas and drain the carb). Remove the bottom cover. Check the distance between rubber tired friction wheel and the metal plate, should be approx 1/8" gap. Apply the wheel drive clutch and see it the metal plate moves to touch the rubber tired friction wheel and lock it down with a ty-wrap or similar. Should not be a gap. Take some pics. Can you turn wheels?

On that system it's almost always the two separate axles (it looks like one but isn't) are rusted to the hollow tube they slide inside. look up your parts diagram and see each wheel has an axle that runs on a gear to the trigger controlled hub run off either side of the hex shaft the friction wheel is on. There are plastic slip-over bushing holding the thinner axle ends into the middle tube of the axle assembly. You need to remove those and spray lube to break the axles away from the center tube. One of the hub gears is likely frozen/rusted also and can't release when the trigger on it's side is pulled. However, because the axle is rusted together the whole system turns when engaged.

I definitely appreciate the simple drive system in mine much more after seeing these pictures.
These photos are prime answers to those who question if the newer snowblowers are better than old ones.
Both clear snow acceptably.
But I'd much rather have to wrestle repairing my drive system than this one.
