Bought some Husqvarna drift cutters from Amazon for about $28. These are really solid and come with mounting hardware. They should fit just about anything with carriage bolt holes in the auger housing. The full length slot should work with any bolt spacing. For the 95% of the time I won’t need them, they stow down and out of the way nicely. They should come in handy now and then.

I purchased those for the same reasons you cited. They can be found for about $19 online.
They worked well on my HS80, but are now just tasked with holding the light bar on my HSS1332.

I had a Crafstman just like that I sold last year, kind of regret selling it now. Was one of the few machines that would eat up a snow bank without riding up on top of it.
It is a kick-ass snow blower. I did an impeller mod that throws snow forever and roller skids that help for operating and just moving it around. It’s a beast!

Tabora, what light bar did you get? A link like you always do would be appreciated.

Nice setup! When I bought my Ariens the PO had the drift cutters not installed. I need to get some carriage bolts and some of those plastic knobs. They can be handy for the big snow falls.

I like that they're adjustable, wing-nutted to the bucket, and that they can tuck away. I just run an old scraper blade as a drift cutter on mine, but that involved using a bench grinder to smooth the nicks out of the edge and drilling holes to mount it to my machine's bucket. I think I might throw some wingnuts on mine to make it easier to take off for maintenance and stowage!

Be sure to get some large nylon/brass wingnuts like the ones below. The smaller steel ones are difficult to get tight enough, and the threads get corroded.

That was a long time ago... Here is one from another vendor:
That thing is rated at 180W. Will the older machines be able to power it?

I've been looking to mount an LED light bar on my machine above the bucket just like yours, but don't know how many watts the Tecumseh HMSK100 can handle. Plus, I don't want to have to install an electrical box with rectifiers and diodes and whatnot to get the light to work properly. Not that important to me. The factory halogen gets the job done, but the extra light could come in handy.

The 180W is more like an incandescent/halogen equivalent. It draws "only" 7ish amps @ 12V = 84 actual Watts. I'm running it off a 12V battery.

I have also run it off a 12V 4Ah Rigid power tool battery using one of these battery receptacles.

I just found out that the Bosch portable power adapter for their 18v batteries (I have a bunch of Bosch 18v tools and batteries) has a 12v DC port (5.5mm OD / 1.2mm ID barrel port. I hope to use one to power up an LED light bar. [email protected] has barrel port adapters that are easy to wire up. Looks like another summer project. Now I just need to find the right LED light bar to fit my 30" bucket. I might even try to wire in a switch that I can mount on the console.
