I have an ST24 that I bought used last year, I think it's a ~2006 model (932039). It has an odd handlebar for a snow blower and I think that contributes to my struggles controlling the blower. Since my hands are typically very close together I don't get good leverage when it hits a dip etc. and startes to get off track. Has anyone successfully upgraded once of these to a "traditional" snow blower cockpit? I quick search here hasn't turned up anything.

You mean pistol grip type bars? Yes they made them. You'd likely need all the linkages as well to replace the bail system. Can we get a better look at your compact handlebars and how they connect?

Yup that's exactly what I mean. Is this stuff typically standard? I'm sure the best bet would be to get a donor ariens for parts, but if I were able to get just the bars somewhere I could probably make it work.

Can anyone measure the width of their lower bars to see if it's at least similar? Mine measures ~ 13 5/8" center to center.

That bail system looks like a pain to use, do you have to 2 hand it to get that thing to go? Is there a mechanism to operate both bails with one hand? I have some idea's for converting that to normal bars. I'll have to fetch part #'s so you know what to look for.

PS I checked my 939001 and it's 18.5" at the crossbar...

It is a pain, though I don't have any comparison since this is my first blower. I could probably hold them in the center to use only one hand but then I'd have zero control. My driveway isn't the smoothest so the blower is always trying to walk all over the place, hence my desire to change the setup.

Width might not matter in the end since the bars aren't connected at the bottom. Any ideas you have would be appreciated! I did find a $50 parts blower nearby, so I might take a stab with that too.

Yeah, that style of bar you have, those are good for the machines without reverse, you can pull back with one hand behind you as you walk forward. On a machine with reverse it's not optimal. Your cheapest bet is to go with a 932006 style setup and add a crossbar for your shift.

If you want a modern setup with interlocking clutch handles, your best bet is to sell it and find a used pistol grip 920 machine or a new sno-tek ($600-up). Tracking down the 920 or late 932 handlebars, dash, and all the linkages in the used market will prove costly, and prohibitive if you want dealer parts.
