I commissioned both my blowers after thanksgiving and started them every couple of weeks,BUT
no real snow this year. LOVE IT!!!!! Got to admit though,I love using the blowers when I have to.
Its the manly thing to do. I winterize my boats so the snowblower is summarized.....right???Charlie

I never get a chance to "summerize" any of my units that are all for sale.

Even when I am down to my last blower, which is always a premium keeper for my personal use, someone ends up buying it, no matter how high I put the price.

I run all my blowers year-round .... keeps them in good operating condition .... :)
I try to run the big generator and snow blower quarterly for 15 minutes; so far, this has been working fine for me even though I generally do not have treated gas in them. I do treat the boat fuel tanks, which obviously cannot be run easily over the winter. I run the fuel out of the carbs on the pressure washers, chipper, mowers and generators, but not the snow blower since I can easily start it up whenever I want to.

I too start my snowblower's once a month year round. I only run them a few minutes but that‘s enough to keep fuel lines clear and to bathe internal engine components with oil. Not to mention making it uncomfortable for vermin 🐭to settle into as a summer residence.

After they've been "Summerized", I don't run snowblower engines while they're in storage. Here are some tips for motorcycle storage; some of which are applicable to snowblowers.

Curiously, there is no mention of how to prevent mice from nesting inside the machine. This tip would be applicable to snowblowers as well. I've seen quite a few snowblowers with nests inside the engine blower housing or inside the tractor drive housing.

For mice: stuff a bunch of dryer sheets in the "nesting" areas. I do that (among other barriers) when I store my summer car for the winter. No mice visit <knock on wood> for 8 years now (y)

AND it will smell spring-time fresh come the fall. Just remember to remove them before firing the beast up
