Hi all
So I picked up this used engine. Can anyone tell me why the exhaust flange has this huge divot in the flat?
Just seems really odd.

Looks like a casting flaw that got past QC.

Is that a crack to the right of it that extends down to the bolt hole???

Looks like someone put a gasket on it at some point to seal up a exhaust leak. Which would not surprise me with the looks of the flange. Parts diagram shows no gasket here.

It could be anything. I'm thinking the bolt was broken in there and someone drilled a hole next to it.

You just know it is there and it should not be there. Not a big problem, just looks ugly and raising some concern. JB weld or aluminum blazing it.

i wouldn't worry about it. those holes go pretty deep into the block and that casting flaw is more so a cosmetic issue and shouldn't effect how the muffler snugs up.

If you can't get it to seal as is, it might be simpler to change over to the thread in style muffler.

Add another vote for J-B Weld ExtremeHeat
I've used it before and I have some in the basement at this time.
