Hey! I have an older Ariens 1128 snowblower. Model no. 924121 Ser. No. 022270
Great snowblower a few weeks ago when snowblowing I noticed when I turned it on and engaged the handle for it to move forward it wasn’t responding. I moved the shifter to reverse same thing. Only when I kind of went back and forth from forward speed maximum to reverse it somehow engaged and it would take off on its on at full forward speed and couldn’t stop it for a few seconds. After this, it seemed to work normal again the rest of snowblowing. Another week or two goes by and the same thing happened had to thrust the speed position up and down and it would catch. Now it won’t even engage at all. The lever that engages it to moved forward and reverse feels very easy to pull down requires very little effort but I’m not sure if it was like that before or not.
Here is a video of the bottom cover off.. I noticed that while running the rubber friction ring or whatever it’s called doesn’t make contact to the back spinning part to engage.
Would appreciate any help I can get. I’m mechanically inclined have been auto mechanic for 5-10 years but pretty clueless when it comes to small engines. Would like to try to fix it myself since it is an old machine and can’t justify spending anything more than $100 on an old machine.
Thank you in advance.
