Hi everyone. I've been doing my research for a while. Was pretty set on getting the cadet, but then found this forum and after doing some searches and reading a bit, I found out there are more issues with the cub. Would appreciate if you will help me decide.
I'm looking for 2 stage and below $1000. They both are on sale now and go for $899.

1. Cub or Toro?

2. If Toro should it be 826 oae or 826 oxe?
They are the same right? Only oxe has been retired. I can get either 826 oae or 826 oxe, is there any difference?
3. As well from reading different sources they say to stay away from big box (Home Depot). I can order it online and get it shipped for free or there are a lot of other small stores (Ace or we have Ralph Helm which for $20 will put it together and make sure it's running well). What should I do?

As you see I'm trying to think long term as well in case something goes bad or it needs repair to have a reliable source with good customer service. I bet even if I get it online I could find small shops that can help me with repair and not have to deal with any stores.

Thanks everyone for the help.

welcome to the SBF

buying online from places like bulk sales places online like the one i think you are referring to. i would personally shy away from ,buying from a dealer you know it's properly set up and test run before delivered to you, a dealer will also explain and show you how to operate the machine, something online or box store can't do.

826 oae isn't discontinued going by the toro web site i only see it that way online from one big web site
please call some real dealers

Thanks for your reply. Online I was talking from toro directly. They give you free shipping. I was talking about 826 oxe being discontinued and now it's sold under oae. There is a dealer who has both so I was wondering if there is a difference. Can you recommend a good dealer in 60563 zip code area? Thank you

please go into the toro website, click on buy, insert you IL zip code you will see a bunch of dealers listed , chose one nearest where you are yes toro offers free shipping to a dealer near you for set and delivery when purchased online. directly from them
another is you have good chance of a dealer having the model you wish in stock even if toro is dropping it . many have left overs

Thanks guys for your help and replies.
I did look on toro website for dealers around me and beside home depot and Ace hardware there are 2 more dealers. 1 has not very good reviews the other one looks decent. Went to HD today and looked at the blower in person. Unfortunately they didn't have the 826, but it gave me a good idea on what to expect. Will have to check out couple more details. I saw 824 doesn't have a light and the connection of the chute to the front part of the blower is made out of plastic. Hopefully 826 has a light and is all steel.
I will definitely be back with questions on how to break it in and how to properly use it and maintenance it. If you can recommend some videos or somewhere i can read about it, will be great.

Both models of the 826 have the plastic ACS. Not a big deal when you consider that back when Toro had the plastic chutes and ACS there were virtually no issues. I never heard of any on the forum. If you want all metal the HD series is what you should look at.

Gonna go against the grain here and suggest the Cub.. Toros are a bit too plastic for me, and not a fan of the "quick stick" mechanism. Cubs also have the oil drain at the back, Toros are on the side which makes oil changes annoying.

I will agree with buying from a dealer instead of a big box store though :)

Toro's are rarely on the sales floor at my Home Depot. I asked one of the regulars who works in that area he said they keep selling. The Cubs just sit there gathering dust. Since Ariens are now nicely displayed at Lowes it seems HD is featuring Cub prominently. Ariens at HD seems like cast offs sadly at least at our HD.
