This just arrived. I almost passed on this freebie due to missing head bolts and empty spark plug hole but I'd already driven my pickup 31 miles/40 minutes to get it. It needs a heater box and fuel tank but I have an ST824 donor machine from which to cannibalize these parts.

This machine is destined for my brother. Its piston seized during the first 15 seconds engine running at mid-RPM because the oil sump was empty! I poured some Marvel Mystery Oil into the spark plug hole, filled the sump with oil and got the engine re-started. It seems to be OK.

Today, I rigged a temporary fuel tank, cleaned and adjusted carb for low/high speed operation. Electric start, auger and tractor drive all function. Skid shoes are good (need height adjustment).

A belt cover, carb heater box and fuel tank will be sourced from my parts snowblower.

Tractor drive servicing and auger gear box/shaft greasing needs to be done tomorrow.

PS The Toro is on the back burner because I'd rather work on all these Ariens "orphans" that keep following me home. :ROFLMAO: The Toro's B&S Flo-Jet carburetor needs disassembling. I'm dreading removing its emulsion tube without stripping its screwdriver slot.

Back in 2017 I got a free ST-824 and after some tinkering I got to try it out. Boy was mine a dude, plowed snow pretty poorly and even my little MTD 22" blew snow better than that 824. Now to my credit I was sort of a snow blower novice back then. Had I known all the stuff about modding the old stuff up and adding a paddle mod, it might have made a pretty good machine. Sadly on it's last pass when I just finished the heavy wet Snow that April the auger brass gear gave up the ghost, so I parted it out and kept the 8hp engine and put it on my chipper shredder, so the 824 does live on.
